Pioneering Breakthrough Techniques
With a 30-year history of being a leader in cardiac research, MemorialCare physicians have pioneered many cutting-edge diagnostic tests and treatments for heart disease, including the use of pacemakers, treadmill stress testing and drug therapies for acute coronary syndrome. In 1978, our cardiologists at Long Beach Memorial performed the first percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) in Southern California. In 2001, Long Beach Memorial was one of the first institutions in the United States to use a synchronizing pacemaker, called cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), which is now recommended by the American Heart Association in the treatment of heart failure.
Saddleback Memorial was instrumental in pioneering beating heart surgery.
